Olathe Youth Court Officers welcomed new officers to the program and had some familiar faces come back for their kick off to the new school year meeting.  Mallory Rush (2007 – OS), Matt Washford (2008 – ONW), and Mike Hunting (2011 – OE) graduates of OPS helped facilitate the meeting and enjoyed sharing some of their experiences as officers in the program.  Several new recruits got the chance to experience what it’s like to be an officer of the Olathe Youth Court program.

Great News…all of our session times have changed for the summer.  You have plenty of time to hit the pool after attending  the Movie and ABLE on Tuesday morning, Empowering Youth on Wednesday,  and SIS on Thursday morning.

Movie  - Tuesday, July 17, 2012  from 10 a.m.- 12 noon.

ABLE - Tuesday, July 10, 2012 and Tuesday, July 24, 2012 from 10:30 a.m. – 12 noon.

Empowering Youth – Wednesday, July 11th, 25th, and Wednesday, August 8, 2012 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.

SIS – Every Thursday morning from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Be a Part of the 2008 Olathe Youth Congress!

Olathe students in gradees 7 – 12 are encouraged to apply to the Olathe Youth Congress!  This year, the general assembly will be held at Olathe Northwest High School on Tuesday, October 21, 2008!

There are three different student positions you can apply for!  Please read carefully to make sure you apply for the position you are interested in!

Floor Leaders: Students who serve as Whip Leaders, Sub-committee chairs, Sgt-At-Arms, and other leadership positions.  There are required meetings for students who want to serve as Floor Leaders.  Click HERE to learn more and to fill out the application.  These applications are due by September 10, 2008. 

Senators:  Students who take the lead in helping to implement the resolutions that are passed at the General Assembly.  There are required meetings for students who want to serve as Senators.  Click HERE to learn more and to fill out the application.  These applications are due by September 10, 2008.

Representatives:  Students who attend the General Assembly.  These students will be assigned to one of three standing committees: Service, Leadership, or Environment. Students will discuss and debate resolutions, and will vote to determine which resolution(s) pass this year’s Olathe Youth Congress General Assembly.  Click HERE to apply.  These applications are due by September 19, 2008.

Come join us on the following dates to discuss the effects of bullying and learn how to prevent it from happening to you!  This seminar will feature fun activities and important information that may help you deal with an uncomfortable situation in the future.  If you know someone who is having a hard time with bullying, invite them to come with you!

The 3rd Annual Law Day event will be held on Friday, April 11th at ONW High School.  Olathe Youth Court officers will present an actual case to our 6th graders and give them the opportunity to determine the outcome based on the facts presented during the trial.  This is a unique way to introduce the Olathe Youth Court program and all other Student Development programs to all of our 6th grade students.  Registration forms have been sent to all elementary schools and if you have any questions contact the Student Development Department at (913) 780-7046.

We are excited to announce the Camp ABLE locations for 2008.  This year we will host a session at Oregon Trail Junior High on February 26th and Indian Trail Junior High on March 12th from 4-6 p.m.  Announcements and registration forms have been sent to our elementary schools inviting our 6th graders to join us for this much anticipated event!   Please contact the Student Development Department at (913) 780-7046 if you have any questions!  Hope to see you there!

The ABLE session scheduled for Tuesday, January 29 from 4 – 5 pm at the NLSC is canceled due to the weather.

Also, as an FYI, any time after school activities are canceled due to weather by the Olathe School District, our meetings would also be canceled.  If you are unsure if after school activities are canceled by the district, you can check the district website: www.olatheschools.com and weather alert/cancelation information is typically posted on the front page.
