Olathe District Schools 2008 Summer School
ENROLLMENT FOR SAIL AND SUMMER TRAILS IS CLOSED. THE LAST REGISTRATION DATE FOR HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER SCHOOL IS WEDNESDAY, 6/12/08
The typical school year begins in mid-August and ends in late May, however there are many opportunities for students of all ages to continue learning during the summer. Classes begin June 2, 2008 and end June 27, 2008. The deadline for enrolling in elementary and jr. high summer school is May 9, 2008.
Elementary S.A.I.L. (Grades K-5)
The Summer Adventures in Learning (S.A.I.L.) program is a fee-based program available to all interested Olathe District Schools students. The summer session provides opportunities for all students to continue their learning in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. A variety of sessions are offered including world culture, computers, music / drama, science, cooking, reading, math, and swimming. Sessions are taught by certified teachers. These popular classes are offered for enrichment, remediation and review, or just to keep the brain working over the long summer.
Information is typically available during parent-teacher conferences in February. Enrollment for the S.A.I.L. program is conducted during April and May.

Junior High Summer Trails (Grades 6-9)
Summer Trails is a fee-based summer school program for junior high students. Academic enhancement classes for students interested in extending their school successes and preparing them for the next school year are an important feature of junior high summer school. For example: Students in 7th or 8th grade may enroll in Skillbuilder to prepare for language arts, mathematics, science and social studies classes. Senior High (Grades 9-12)
Students may enroll in sessions for select credit courses and recovery credit courses for high school requirements. The high school program is offered in two sessions, June 2-13 and June 16-27. Junior high and high school counselors can provide specific guidance for enrollment in credit or non-credit classes. Students may enroll in either session for a half credit, or both sessions for one unit of credit. Enrollment for the first session will be May 14, 4-8 pm and June , at Frontier Trail Junior High.
Students may also enroll in an ACT preparation class, which includes study skills and college testing preparation.

Special Education (E.S.Y.)
The Extended School Year for special education students also runs June 2-27. Eight schools will host the programs: Heartland and Harmony Learning Centers, Regency Place and Sunnyside elementaries, Chisholm Trail, California Trail, and Indian Trail junior highs. Frontier Trail junior high will host the senior high program. Eligibility for enrollment in the Extended School Year is determined by each student’s IEP team. Weight Training
Weight training is a five-week program offered at all four high schools. Interested students should follow the regular summer school enrollment process or contact the head football coach at their junior or senior high school. Tim Anderson, tandersoncst@olatheschools.com, is director of the weight training and fitness program.
Driver’s Education
Driver’s education is offered in the summer at Olathe East, Olathe North and Olathe South high schools. Twelve hours of driving experience and 48 hours of classroom instruction are included in each session. Students must have turned 14 by Jan. 1, 2008 to apply for the 2008 summer program. eAcademy (Online Learning)
