The typical school year begins in mid-August and ends in late May, however there are many opportunities for students of all ages to continue learning during the summer.

Elementary S.A.I.L.

The Summer Adventures in Learning (S.A.I.L.) program is a fee-based program available to all interested Olathe District Schools students. The summer session provides opportunities for all students to continue their learning in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. A variety of sessions are offered including international language, computers, music / drama, science, cooking, reading, math, and swimming. Sessions are taught by certified teachers. These popular classes are offered for enrichment, remediation, or just to keep the brain working over the long summer.

Information is typically available during parent-teacher conferences in February. Enrollment for the S.A.I.L. program is conducted during April and May.

For information on the S.A.I.L. program, contact your building principal or call the S.A.I.L. hotline after April 1 at (913) 780-SAIL (7245).

The high school program is offered in two sessions. Junior high and high school counselors can provide specific guidance for enrollment in credit or non-credit classes. Students may enroll in either session for a half credit, or both sessions for one unit of credit.

Students may also enroll in an ACT preparation class, which includes study skills and college testing preparation.
